Hi all I’ve been playing with the app in the iPad but I’m struggling to get a nice surface modelling using alphas. So I was wondering if anyone has any tips.

let’s say I want to model a cylinder with scales.
I did import the brush properly but I cannot make an uniform covering of the surface. I’ve tried using the stamp and also some brushes but still not happy with it.

This first picture uses the stamp. But it is really hard to get the overlaps perfectly. If I get a satisfactory overlap the scales are probably not going to be in the same size as you can see in the example. I did play a bit with orientation in the stamp settings, which helps on the direction of the scales to be consistent.

this second picture is an attempt using the standard brush and setting the alpha as texture. I can get better uniformity by just tapping it once and create a stamp, but it is very hard to blend one with the other. Again the overlaps are really hard to get.

if it drag the brush over the surface I do get a better uniform cover, but the scales pattern is completely ruined as you see in this third picture.

Anyone has any tips for using alphas or how would you create a scale pattern?
Anything I’m doing wrong or perhaps my alpha brush is just not good enough for this?
